               세기의 교차기에 선 중국 산문의 풍경

  21세기를 눈앞에 둔 지금 중국은  계획경제에서 사회주의 시장경제로, '글로써 도를  밝히
는' 관주도의 문화에서 '글로써 사람을 계몽하고' '글로써  사람을 즐겁게 하는' 민본위의 문
화로 전환 중이다. 산문 역시 내심의 체험과 정감의 표현에 치중하는 문학 양식으로서 새로
운 기회와 도전을 맞이하고 있다.
  전통적으로 중국산문은 시와 더불어 문학의 적자로 간주되었다. 그것은 선진 시기 제자백
가 산문의 찬란함도 가졌고, 당송팔대가 산문의 휘황함도 보였고, 명청 소품의 눈부심도  있
었고, 5·4 백화산문의 성공도 거두었고, 중화인민공화국 건국  이후 1950,60년대 산문의 번
영과 1980년대 이후 산문의 새로운  성취도 이루었다. 중국산문은 산문가의  사상과 감정을 
표출하는 것이었을 뿐만 아니라 더 나아가서 유?불?도의 전통 문화를 담고 있는 것이기도 
했다. 유가의 적극적인 현실참여?천인합일?천하구제라든가 불가의 초탈?해탈?미래의 동
경이라든가 도가의 무위자연?화해달관 등의 사상은, 인류사회  특히 동방사회의 안정과 발
전에 대해 각기 그 나름의 역할을 다해왔다.
  산문은 비록 그 길이가 짧아 용량에 한계가 있는 듯하지만,  그러나 그것은 그 적은 분량 
속에서도 흥망의 감정을 담아낼 수 있고 그 짧은 길이 안에서도 강력한 물결을 불러일으킬 
수 있다. 그것은 산문가의 심리 궤적과 사색 역정의 노래로서, 아름답고 고결한 정서로 삶을 
반영하고 표현하는 것이다. 그것의 숭고한 사명은 인류의 운명에  대한 끝없는 관심과 보통 
사람들의 삶에 대한 관조로서, 고귀한 민족 영혼과 문화를 창달함에 있어서 간과할 수 없는 
작용을 한다. 이 때문에 세기의 교차기에  선 중국산문은, 개혁 개방의 대세와 경제  문화의 
전환으로 형성된 더욱 여유 있는 물질적 상황과 심리적 환경  속에서, 몇 가지 훌륭한 풍경
을 보여주고 있다.
  
  
      1. 여성산문, 그 아름답고 다채로운 모습
  
  세기의 교차기에 선 중국산문에는 한 가지 산뜻한 풍경이  있다. 여성산문의 대두가 바로 
그것으로, 이는 전통 예교의 영향하에서 여성이 받은 구속이 가장 컸기 때문이다. 특히 두각
을 나타낸 여성산문가의 대다수는  蘇葉?張抗抗?葉夢?呂錦華?唐敏?王英琦?斯好?張愛
華?舒  등 1950년대에 출생한 사람들이다. 그들은 문화대혁명의 폭풍우와 하방 등과 같은 
극심한 시련을 겪었고, 그러한 특별하면서도 고난스러웠던 인생 체험은  그들의 마음 속 깊
이 쏟아내지 않을 수 없는 갖가지 인생의 담론이 쌓이고 쌓이도록 만들었다. 이리하여 신시
기에 들어서서 극좌사조가 해체되고 개인의 존엄성이  강조되면서, 그들은 진지함과 감정이 
강조되는 산문을 택하였고, 마침내 알을 깨고 나오듯이 강력한 한 줄기 새로운 흐름을 형성
하게 되었다. 1990년대에 이르러 시장경제가 운용되고  상품경제가 발달하고 시민의식이 확
산되고 신문 잡지의 문화면이 증대되자 여성산문은 더욱더 대중의 사랑을 받게 되었다.
  세기의 교차기에 선 여성산문은 다음과 같이 사상 내용 면에서 다양한 빛깔을 보여 주고 
있다.
  (1) 애정의 갈구  여성산문에서 사람들을 가장 심취하게 만드는 것은 영원한 주제라고도 
할 사랑에 대한 토로이다. 그들은 사랑의 쓰고 달콤하고 시고  매운 맛과 그것이 가지고 있
는 도덕과 윤리 의식을 써내고, 연애와 결혼에 대한 갈망을 표현하고, 여성에게 깊숙이 내재
된 생명의 빛을 길어 올린다. 예컨대 唐敏의 산문은, 성장기 여성의 육체적 정신적 변화에서
부터, 자녀를 낳아 기르는 과정에서의 노심초사라든가 화목한 가정의 추구에 이르기까지, 인
류가 생존하고 번성해나가는 과정에서 존재하게 되는 여성의 고통과 위대함 및 진솔한 자아 
감정을 표현해내고 있다. 요컨대 여성의 사회적 역할과 생존 환경에 대한 그들의 사색은 여
성이라는 집단에 대한 관심을 이끌어냈고, 이는 당대 여성의  자아의식의 소생을 보여 주는 
것이었다.
  (2) 독립적 인격 추구  오늘날 여성은 지난 수천 년 동안 지속된 남존여비적 전통의식의 
압력 하에 일상 생활에서 이중의 역할을 해내야만 한다. 즉 일에서도 합격생이 되어야 하고 
가정에서도 '현모양처'가 되어야 한다. 여성이 두각을 나타내자면 남성에 비해 훨씬 더 많은 
심혈과 노동을 치러야만 하는 것이다. 이 때문에 그들은 의타적 관념을 버리고 평등한 사회 
참여를 요구하면서, 자신을 존중하고 신뢰하고  강해지고자 하고 홀로 서고자 한다.  그들은 
작품 속에서 종종 '여인이 되기란 너무도 어렵고 너무도 힘들다!'라고 부르짖으면서, 독립적 
인격 추구라는 강렬한 열망을 표현해내고  있다. 李融의 〈잃어버린 나失踪的我〉는,  '내'가 
현상응모에서 일등상을 수상함으로써 받게된 유언비어를  묘사하고 있는데, '나'는 절도범?
밀수범이라고 말해지는가 하면 심지어는 문화국장이나 문련 주석과 놀아났다고 까지 말해진
다. 왜냐하면 사회가 평범한 여인은 용인해주지만 이상과 동경을  가진 여인은 용납해줄 수 
없기 때문이다. 일찍이 1920년대에 魯迅이 〈노라가  집을 나간 후娜拉走後 樣〉에서 반봉
건의 문제를 제기하며 경제와 사회  참여 면에서 남녀가 평등해야 한다고  주장한 바 있다. 
그렇지만 반봉건이란 문제는 1990년대에 이르러서도 아직 해결되지 못한 것으로 보이며, 당
연히 산문 창작에서도 계속해서 다루어질 것으로 보인다.
  (3) 동심과 모성애 찬양  동심과 모성애는 여성산문에서 영원히 불리는 노래다. 이는 여
성이 천성적으로 가지고 있는 정서적 경향?환상?세심함?선량함 등의 본성이 이루어낸 바
다. 어린이와 어머니에 대한 그들의 마음 씀에는 일종의 천부적인 감정적 유대가 있다. 舒 
의 〈처음부터 끝까지源源本本〉라든지 母碧芳의 〈골짜기와 태양一個山谷一個太陽〉은  순
진하고 투명한 동심을 보여주었고, 邢秀玲의 〈어머니慈母〉는  모성애의 사심 없음을 보여
주었다. 이처럼 여성산문에는 동심과 모성애에 대한 찬미와 사랑이 많이 나타난다.
  (4) 과거와 우의에 대한 회고  여성의 순수함 탓에 여성산문가들은 감정과 우의를  중시
한다. 그들은 특히 고향과 인정을 더듬는다. 文淸麗의 〈내 고향은 황토 고원我家住在黃土高
坡〉은 중국 서북부의  풍토?인정으로부터 고향에 대한  사랑을 풀어내고  있다. 江宛柳의 
〈바이올린 소리琴聲〉는 운명에 의해 죽음의 길로  내몰린, 중앙오케스트라의 수석 바이올
린 주자 葉家駒의 딸인  葉麗娜를 회고하면서, 그 열정적이고  선량하고 총명하고 강렬했던 
한 생명에 대한 안타까움을 드러내고 있다. 과거와 우의를 읊조린 이런 아름다운 글들은 말 
그대로 진실하고 감동적이었다.
  여성은 특유의 '직관적 사유'로 인해 민감?직관?직감?연상 등의 심리적 능력이 특히 뛰
어나다. 이 때문에 여성산문은 예술적인 면에서 활기 있고  참신하며 민활하고 다양한 탐색
을 보여주고 있다.
  예술 사유 면에서 볼 때, 그들은 일반적으로 단선적인 사유 형태를 벗어나는 데 뛰어나다. 
다시 말해서 여성산문가의 의식의 흐름은 마치 꿈속에서처럼 시공의 논리가 갖는 한계를 뛰
쳐나가 전후좌우를 자유롭게 넘나들고, 이에 따라 그들의 글은  인과적 연계를 찾기가 어렵
고 대단히 비약적이다. 그러나 그럼에도 불구하고  독자로 하여금 견강부회라든가 생경하다
라든가 하는 느낌을 주지 않고 더욱 큰 임의성과 탄력성을 부여해준다.
  예술 구조면에서 볼 때, 그들은 서방 모더니즘의 예술  수법을 광범위하게 흡수하여 유동
성을 보이고 있다. 여성산문에서는 심리적 흐름의 표출?부조리적 변형과 과장?몽타주식의 
조합과 결합?상징 계통의 모호성과 함축성 …… 등이 대량으로  나타나고 있다. 기존을 벗
어나고 전통에 반하는 이러한 새로운 구조들은 여성 영혼의 내보임과 개인의 존엄성 확산을 
도와주면서 독자에게 새로운 심미적 감수를 가져다주었다.
  예술 언어 면에서 볼 때, 여성산문은 시화와 정서화의 성향이 풍부하고 언어의 장력과 탄
성이 크다. 이는 여성산문가가 감정과 환상이  풍부하여 비유?상징?중복?대구 등의 수사
법을 사용해 사상과 감정을 표현함으로써, 언어가 농축적이고 적확하며, 간결하면서도  의미
가 심장하고, 따스하고 부드러우며 정감이 넘쳐나도록 만들기 때문이다.
  종합하자면, 세기의 교차기에 선 여성산문은,  여성의 자아의식을 기치로 내세워 이  시대 
여성의 정신적 추구의 궤적에 대한 표현을 그 임무로 삼고  있는데, 이는 그야말로 과거 남
성 세계를 위주로 해온 문단에 신선한 새 바람을 불어넣어 주면서 또 하나의 눈부신 풍경을 
이루어낸 것이다.
  
  
      2. 학자산문, 그 깊이 있고 품위 있는 모습
  
  세기의 교차기에 선 중국산문의 풍경 중에서  또 하나의 빛나는 풍경은 학자산문이  다시 
광채를 발하고 있는 것이다.
  학자산문은 학계의 권위자들이 쓴 책내음이 물씬 풍기는 수필이다. 그들은 두터운 학식?
탁월한 식견?드높은 글솜씨를 가지고서 마음이 가는 대로 서사?묘사?논의?서정 등을 행
한다. 거시적인 문화적 시각과 명확한 문화적 지향점을 갖춘  그들의 산문은 철학적 사고와 
예지가 가득 찬 문화산문이요 예술산문이다. 본래 중국의 학자산문은 유구한 문화적 전통을 
가지고 있다. 선진 시기의 제자백가에서부터 당송팔대가라든가  명청 연간의 袁宏道 삼형제 
에 이르기까지, 5·4 신문화운동  이후의 胡適?魯迅?周作人?茅盾?郭沫若?朱自淸?林語
堂?梁實秋 등에서부터 1940,50년대의 錢鍾書?王了一?秦牧 등에  이르기까지 모두 문화적 
품격이 드높은 많은 학자산문을 창작했다. 학자산문은 수십 년간  전화와 초연으로 인해 문
화가 억압당함으로써 한때 저조해지기도 했다. 그러나 신시기에 들어서서 개혁과 개방이 시
작되고, 정치적인 강령이 느슨해지고 사상이 해방되자, 학자산문은 생기를 회복하여  다시금 
발전하게 되었다.  예컨대 巴金?丁玲?季羨林?王西彦?楊絳?楊述?黃秋耘?金克木?張中
行?林非?余秋雨 등 일단의 원로와 중견 학자산문가가 크게 빛을 발하기 시작한 것이 그러
하다. 그들은 사회?인생에 대한 사고와 문사철에 대한 지식  및 예술적 감상력을 가지고서 
각종의 사안들을 통해 자신의 견해와 감정을 펼치고 철리적 사색을 다듬어내면서  인류사회
와 나라와 겨레의 운명에 대한 관심을 표현해냈다.
  그들은 산문이라는 전통적 형식에다가 새로운 지식이나 새로운 사고를 주입하여 감성에서 
지성으로 다시 이성으로의 승화를 실현해냄으로써, 독자들로  하여금 진실한 감정과 지혜를 
갖도록 만듦과 동시에 더욱 심층적인 인생의 깨달음을 갖도록  해주었다. 이 때문에 학자산
문은 의미 면에서 뚜렷한 특색을 보인다.
  (1) 농후한 문화적 분위기  문화란 광범위한 개념이다.  그것은 물질형태의 것뿐만 아니
라 더 나아가서 정신형태의 민족정신?민족심리?민족풍속 등도 포함하고 있다. 학자산문의 
문화적 분위기는 특정 지역?특정 민족의 물질형태와 정신형태를 표현해냄은  물론이거니와 
더욱더 중요한 것은 민족의  문화정신과 문화성격을 빚어낸다는  점이다. 丁玲의 〈'외양간' 
소품牛棚小品〉?楊絳의 〈간부학교 이야기幹校六記〉?楊述의 〈글은 영원히 남으리健筆終
存天地間〉?王西彦의 〈연옥 속의 성화煉獄中的聖火〉 등은 모두가 문화대혁명이라는 통절
한 역사에 대한 되돌아보기를 통하여 우매하고 야만적인 민족의 저열한 행위를  비판하면서 
독자적 사고가 풍부한 민족 문화정신을 이끌어냈다. 張中行의 산문은 불가의 선리禪理로 인
생의 선의禪意를 통찰했다. 그의 〈순생론順生論〉은 온갖 풍상을 다 겪은 늙은이의 말투로 
조용하면서도 감동적으로 우정?사랑?혼인?가정?윤리?도덕 등 제 문제를 이야기하면서, 
'어떻게 살아야만 하는가'에 관한 갖가지 인생의 관점을 밝히고  있다. 그의 〈삶의 작은 반
항生的小反抗〉은 학자의 예지로 예법에 대한 반항에서부터 천명에 대한 반항에 이르기까지 
인생을 논하면서  생명의 귀중함을  말하고 있다.  金克木의 〈아가雅歌·과부부寡婦賦〉는 
《성경》에서부터 《소년 피터의 번뇌》에 이르기까지, 《시경詩經》에서부터 〈과부부寡婦
賦〉에 이르기까지 고전 속의 사랑을 논하고 있는데, 지식이  풍부함은 물론 독자로 하여금 
중국 여성의 운명에 관해 다시 한번 생각해보도록 만든다.  학자산문은 이처럼 마음가는 대
로 써 내려가면서도 역사?철학?음악?예술 등 각 분야의 지식이 하나로 녹아있다. 당연히 
이러한 것은 단순히 지식의 나열이 아니다. 자료가 글 사이사이에 녹아들어 있는 것이다. 따
라서 학자산문은 문채가 빼어나면서도 깊이가 있고 품위가 있으며, 중후한 문화의식과 심오
한 역사감각이 갖추어져 있다.
  (2) 강렬한 사변적 색채  여기서 사변이란 곧 현대적 시각?현대적 관념?현대적 의식으
로 역사를 되돌아보고 국가?민족?역사?시대?운명?인생  등과 관련하여 사색하는  것이
다. 학자산문가들은 20세기 인류문화학이라는 새로운 시야를 가지고서 역사?문화의 족적을 
밟아가며 현재를 사고함으로써 세상을 깨우치고 사람을 깨닫게 만드는 견해를 제시한다. 余
秋雨의 《문화의 여정文化苦旅》은 산수와 풍물을 빌어 문화의 영혼과 인생의 비밀을  탐구
하고, 중국문화의 역사적 운명과 중국문인의 인격적 구조를 탐색한다. 〈어느 도사의 탑道士
塔〉?〈양꾸안의 눈陽關雪〉 등은 하나 하나의  오래된 사물을 통하여 유구한  황하문명의 
성쇠를 묘사한다. 〈비바람 속의 천일각風雨天一閣〉?〈칭윈푸 수상靑雲譜隨想〉은 문화적 
인격과 문화적 지식을 지향하면서 중국문화의 간난한 역정을 보여준다. 〈한 왕조의 뒷모습
一個王朝的背影〉은 피와 눈물로 가득 차 있으면서도 찬란하기 그지없는 역사에 대해  냉철
하고도 어찌할 수 없는 고별임에 틀림없다. …… 이러한 글들은 모두가 구체적인 사물의 묘
사 대신 수많은 중국문화의 수수께끼를 체험하고 풀어내기에 진력하고 있어서 심오하면서도 
처연한 역사감을 자아낸다. 余秋雨의 산문은 1990년대에 두각을 나타낸 사변적 색채가 풍부
한 산문의 한 성과라고 말해야 할 것이다.
  (3) 거시적 문화 고찰  학자산문가는 서재에서 나와 광활한 현실  세계를 마주하고서 현
대적 시각으로 인류의 고로한 역사와 현대 문명에 대해 거시적인 문화적 고찰을 행한다. '창
생을 구하고' '여민을 걱정한다'는 전통적 도덕의 잣대에 맞춰  자신의 깊이 있고 복잡한 인
생의 느낌과 깨달음을 상대적으로 성숙된 이성적 사유의 성과로 승화시키고, 이로부터 사람
들로 하여금 인류 삶의 발전에  대해 깊이 한번 생각해보도록 하는  어떤 견해를 제시한다. 
季羨林의 〈해당화를 추억하며懷念西府海棠〉는 해당화가  문화대혁명 중에 아무런  이유도 
없이 잘려나가 '한을 품고 이승을 떠나게' 된 일을 빌어서 인류의 아름다운 미래에 대한  동
경을 이끌어낸다. 곧 "원컨대 가없는 우주에서 아직도 그처럼  한 순결한 곳이 있어서 선경 
낙토를 허락해주기를. 그곳에는 사철 지지 않는 꽃과 일년 내내 푸른 풀이 있고, 대지의  모
든 꽃과 풀의 영혼이 영원히 그곳에 거처하면서, 어느 때 어느 곳에서든 꽃더미가 가득하고 
오색이 찬란하기를" 기원하는 것이다. 林非의 《미국에서 돌아와訪美歸來》?《유럽여행 일
본여행西遊記和東遊記》은 외국문명과 현대문화에 대해 거시적 고찰을 행하면서 취사선택의 
두터운 내적 바탕을 보여주고 있다. 《나의 독서 인생讀書心態錄》은 민족 전통문화에 대한 
되돌아보기와 재건에 주목함으로써 현대적 문명이 이루어지기를 열망하는 학자적 풍모를 보
여주고 있다.
  (4) 엄격한 자아 해부  학자산문가들은 魯迅의 엄숙한 자아해부 정신을 계승하여 언제나 
엄격한 태도로 자신을 대하면서 학자적 양심과 도덕적 자아의 완성을 추구하고 있다. 이 때
문에 그들은 엄려한 비판적 태도로 역사와 문화를 반성함과  동시에, 늘 겸허한 자아분석과 
자아참회를 행하고, 민족과 시대의 흔적을 찾고 인성의 아름다움과 약점을 탐구하면서, 경험
이 주는 교훈을 성찰하고 미래에 대한 경각심을 환기시킨다. 巴金의 다섯권짜리 《수상록隨
想錄》은 바로 이처럼 '온 민족과  더불어 참회하고' 시대와 더불어  근심하는 역사서다. 그 
속에는 문화대혁명에 대한 되돌아보기?혈육과 지인들에 대한 회고?사람들의 따스한  정에 
대한 찬미가 있을 뿐만 아니라, 자아해부와 자신으로 미루어 남을 헤아리는 마음이  있으니, 
문화대혁명 중에 왜곡되어버린 인격의 용렬함과 위축됨을 고발하면서 독자적 의식이 넘치는 
인격을 부르짖고 있다. 黃秋耘의 〈라일락 꽃 아래서丁香花下〉?〈잊을 수 없는 눈빛과 눈
물 그림자難忘的眼神與淚光〉는 왕년의 뜬구름과 같은 삶에 침잠해 들어가서 그 고독하고도 
우울했던 옛일에 대한 회고를 통해 영혼 깊숙한 곳에 숨어있는 이기적이고 비겁한 인간성의 
저열함을 폭로했다. 이처럼 학자산문가들의  엄격한 자아해부는 민족문화  성격의 재창조와 
건전화를 인도하는 큰 역할을 하고 있다.
  
  
      3. 본격산문과 통속산문, 그 나란한 성황
  
  세기의 교차기에 선 중국산문의 풍경에는 또 하나의 기막힌  풍경이 있다. 본격산문과 통
속산문의 나란한 성황이 그것이다.
  본격산문이란 진?선?미를 선양하고 거짓?악함?추함을 내침으로써 인간을 고상하고 문
명적이고 진보적으로 이끄는  '고아한 산문雅散文'을 말한다.  왜냐하면 '고아함'이란 현실의 
공리와는 거리가 먼 것이기 때문이다. 사람이 공리와 멀어지면 멀어질수록 '고아한' 맛이 있
듯이 산문 역시 그러하다. 일본의  문예비평가 廚川白村(1880-1923)은 〈현대문학의 주류〉
라는 글에서 "문예의 근본 소임은 문명비판?사회비판으로서,  비판을 통해 한 세상을 이끌

 영국의 작가 벤슨도 〈수필작가의 예술〉에서 이렇게 말했다. "수필작가는 그 특수한 방식으로 인생의 해설자?인생의 평론가 역할을 한다. …… 수필작가가 깊이 관심을 갖는 것은 역시 사물의 매력과 특성으로, 그것을 가장 명징하고 가장 부드러운 빛 속에다 드러냄으로써 다른 사람들이 더욱 더 인생을 사랑하게 만들고, 인생 중의 무궁무진한 변화에 대해 그것이 뜻밖의 기쁨이든 의외의 비애이든 간에 정신적인 준비를 하도록 만들고자 한다."{{) 亞·克·本森, 〈隨筆作家的藝術〉, 《外國作家論散文》, (新疆大學出版社, 1944)

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    반드시                                                                                                                                                         문명비판?사회비판?인생                                                                                                                                                          사랑?진리                                                                                                                                                         발양을                                                                                                                                                         행하는                                                                                                                                                          산문이라야                                                                                                                                                         한다.                                                                                                                                                         세기의                                                                                                                                                          교차기에서                                                                                                                                                         비록                                                                                                                                                         시장경제의                                                                                                                                                          운용                                                                                                                                                         하에                                                                                                                                                         경쟁이                                                                                                                                                          격화되고                                                                                                                                                         생활                                                                                                                                                         리듬이                                                                                                                                                          빨라지고                                                                                                                                                         상업적                                                                                                                                                         풍조가                                                                                                                                                          사람들을                                                                                                                                                         취하게                                                                                                                                                         만들고                                                                                                                                                          있지만,                                                                                                                                                         일단의                                                                                                                                                         산문가들은                                                                                                                                                          여전히                                                                                                                                                         산문예술의                                                                                                                                                         참됨에                                                                                                                                                          진력하여                                                                                                                                                         시정에                                                   영토를                                                                                                           고수하고                                                                                                            있다.                                                                                                           비록                                                                                                            그들은                                                                                                            숫자도                                                                                                           많지                                                                                                            않고                                                                                                            산문예술의                                                                                                           '청교도'라고                                                                                                            부를                                                                                                            수도                                                                                                           있겠지만,                                                                                                            그러나                                                                                                            그들은                                                                                                           민족문화의                                                                                                            축적과                                                                                                            산문의                                                                                                           발전을                                                                                                            위해                                                                                                            묵묵히                                                                                                           헌신하고                                                                                                            있다.
  통속산문은 제재가 일상화되고 주제가 평이화되고 형식이 대중화되고 언어가 생활화된 산
문을 일컫는다. 신문 잡지에  [보통 사람네尋常百姓家]?[삶의 뜨락生活大觀園]?[도시풍경
都市風景]?[아름다운 교정 紛校園]?[문화살롱文化茶座] 등의  제목이 붙은 난의  산문이 
그런 것이다. 이들 산문은 갑자기 성행하게 되었는데, 비록 형편없는 것들도 있기는 하지만, 
대중에게 친밀하고 그들의 내심을 잘 투영하는 데다가 생활의 정취가 짙고 생동적이어서 대
중의 사랑을 받고 있다. 다만 통속산문 중에는 영합적이고  용렬한 산문이 상당수 존재하고 
있는데 그 상황은 다음과 같다. (1) 제재가 사소하다. 일부 사람들은 찻잔 속의 태풍에 열중
하여 용렬하고 무의미한 생활의 사소한 일들 곱씹고 있다거나 또는 '자아'의 성에만  갇혀서 
지분 냄새와 '여편네 티'가 넘쳐난다. (2) 감정이 연약하다. 일부 사람들은 오로지 인생의 고
통스러움을 탄식하고 실연을 애닯아하고 사랑놀음에 애를 끓이고 온갖 우수에 시름 젖는 것
에만 집착하여 감정이 사소하고 격조가 떨어진다. (3) 표현이 불분명하다. 일부 사람들은 알
쏭달쏭하고 모호한 것에 몰두하여 구성이 혼란스럽고  수법이 희한하고 의미가 불분명하다. 
(4) 언어가 속되다. 일부 사람들은 요설을 늘어놓고 경박한 말들을 사용하면서 온통 저속한 
말?괴상한 말?난잡스런 말이어서 문학을 더럽히고 있다.  이처럼 추세에 영합하고 저급한 
취미에 아부하는 영합적이고 용렬한 산문의 출현은 시장경제 하에서 사람들의 심리  상태가 
변화한 것과 불가분의 관계에 있다. 먼저 독자 쪽에서 보자면, 삶의 경쟁이 격화되고 생활의 
박자가 빨라지고 경제적 수입이 증가하면서 독서의 소비적?유한적 심리가 증강되었기 때문
이다. 다음으로 작가 쪽에서 보자면, 일부 사람들은 금전과 물욕의 유혹을 이기지  못하고서 
속인들의 요구에 영합하여 속되고 용렬한 산문을 대량으로 써내면서 커다란 경제적  이익을 
얻게 되었기 때문이다. 마지막으로 출판 쪽에서 보자면, 속되고 용렬한 산문을 발표하고  출
판하는 것은 발행량을 확대하여 막대한 이윤을 얻을 수 있기 때문이다. 사실상 이러한 영합
적이고 용렬한 산문은 산문통속화에  배치되는 것이요, 산문의 고아한  심미적 기능에 대한 
모욕이다.
  본격산문과 통속산문은 확연하게 구분되는 것이 아니라  모순적 통일체이다. 왜냐하면 통
속산문은 결코 저속화?비속화?용속화가 아니라 평민화?대중화?통속화함으로써 '본격' 작
품에 생생하고도 생동적인 정취를 충만하게 만들어 주기 때문이다. 본격산문 역시 신비화?
난삽화도 아니요 궁정화?귀족화도 아니다. 통속산문을 규범화?완성화?순수화시켜 통속산
문으로 하여금 더욱더 예술적 생명력이 풍부하도록 만들어 주는  것이다. 따라서 우리는 대
산문을 제창하여, 순전히 '자아'만을 표현하는 감성산문(연성산문)의 폭좁은 관념을 벗어나서 
인생의 깨달음을 담고 문명비판과 사회비판을 행하는  지성산문(경성산문)을 창작해야만 한
다. 우리는 한 뼘밖에 안되는 생활이란 테두리에서 벗어나고 '여편네 티'를 벗어  던져, 정치
?경제?문화영역으로 들어가고 대천세계로 들어가서  제재를 확대하고 진선미를  추구해야 
한다. 우리는 시대의 맨 앞에 서서 철학자의 머리로  역사?사회?자연?인생 및 특정 시기
의 사람들의 심리적 관심사에 대한 이성적 사고의 역량을 강화하고 사람들을 깨우치는 참되
고 뛰어난 견해를 제시하면서, 이치로써 선을 이끌어내고 참됨으로써 미를 이끌어내야 한다. 
이처럼 우리는 '본격화'함과  동시에 '통속화'에 주의하고,  '통속화'함과 동시에 '본격화'함에 
주의하면서, 서로 참고하고 서로 예술적 영향을 흡수하면서, 본격산문과 통속산문이  나란히 
발전하면서 상호 자극을 주도록 함으로써, 산문창작의 새로운 발전과 번영을 추구해야만 한
다.
  
  중국은 산문의 나라이다. 중국의 산문은 시종일관 웅건함과 묵직함으로 이름이  나있으며, 
장렬하고 평화적인 문화정신이 요동치고 있다. 세기 교차기의 이 시점에서, 성실하게 중국산
문의 훌륭한 전통을 계승하고 폭넓게 외국산문의  예술적 영양분을 흡수하면서, 영합성?가
장성?저속성의 결함을 극복하고, 긴 안목을 갖추고 호연정기를 기르고, 감성적 색칠은 줄이
고 지성적 필치는 늘리고, 강함과 부드러움을 겸비하고 음양을 조화시키고, 종류의 풍성함을 
이루고 풍격의 다양화를 이룬다면, 중국산문은 뭇꽃이 다투어 피는 아름답고 찬란한 모습으
로 인류의 새로운 세기의 문학의 뜰에 자리잡을 수 있을 것이다.
